The prosecutions are complicated and extremely time consuming. The problems lie in the detection of human trafficking. The offence is often detected only through police check. There are simply not enough qualified investigators with the necessary background in human trafficking.

The victims of human trafficking are irreplaceable witnesses for the prosecution. The effectiveness of the prosecution and the fight against organised crime generally depend on their testimony. Many women are too scared to stand as witnesses, especially when they are required to face the criminals in a trial court.
